Coligny Beach Shooting Update: Four Arrested After July 4 Gunfire Injures Seven on Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina,: Authorities have arrested four suspects following the July 4 shooting at Coligny Beach on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, an incident that left seven people with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries. The shooting occurred shortly after 8:20 p.m. after a fight reportedly broke out between two groups on the public beach. During the altercation, multiple shots were fired before those involved fled the area.

According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, deputies quickly identified and detained several suspects using witness information, surveillance footage, and Flock Safety technology. The suspects have been identified as Jayden Hawes, 18, who faces charges including attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and aggravated breach of peace; Marcello Royal, 17, and Quazeir Davis, 17, who face similar charges along with unlawful possession of a weapon; and Christopher Capers, 17, who has been charged as an accessory after the fact. Investigators also recovered multiple firearms during the investigation.

Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public, though the investigation remains active and additional charges may follow. Hilton Head Island Mayor Alan Perry reaffirmed that public safety remains the town’s highest priority and announced continued investments in enhanced surveillance systems around the Coligny Beach area. Authorities are asking anyone with information, photos, or videos related to the shooting to contact the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
