Car Accident Wetaskiwin: A Wetaskiwin man has died following a devastating two-semi collision on Highway 63 north of Fort McMurray, prompting an ongoing RCMP investigation into the fatal crash. The collision occurred in the Chard area near mile marker 163, where two southbound semi-trucks collided, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

According to Wood Buffalo RCMP, both drivers were initially transported to hospital in critical condition. Police later confirmed that one of the drivers, a 46-year-old man from Wetaskiwin, succumbed to his injuries. The second driver remains in critical condition as medical teams continue treatment. Preliminary findings suggest that road conditions may have been a contributing factor, although investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the collision.

The crash forced the temporary closure of the southbound lanes of Highway 63, a major transportation route connecting northern Alberta communities. Traffic was diverted while emergency crews responded, collision reconstruction specialists examined the scene, and the damaged vehicles were removed. The highway has since reopened.

RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash and have extended condolences to the family of the deceased driver. Motorists are reminded to exercise caution on Alberta highways, particularly during adverse weather and changing road conditions, as authorities work to establish the full sequence of events leading to the tragic collision.
